Marina Griffin
Marina Griffin is a photographer based in Fontana, California. She always enjoyed taking photos ever since she was in Middle School. She was known as the girl who always had a disposal camera in her hand. Marina’s career goal was to become a Speech Pathologist, and as time went by, her love for photography began to grow more and more. She was given her first DSLR camera in her freshman year of college. She never saw herself turning photography into a career until her junior year at CBU.
Shades of Black is an ongoing project photographing the Black community and presenting them for the varieties of skin complexion, hair textures, and physical characteristics. The reason she chose this project is that in America today, Black people have yet to achieve racial equality. They are constantly being profiled and treated unjustly by the police. It is frustrating and tiring to know that they must live by a different set of rules just because of the color of their skin. For generations, black people have had to keep reminding the world that we as a people matter. When will enough be enough?”
