Jake Branch
As an avid sports enthusiast, and having played sports his entire life, Jake Branch's work reflects his love for an active and adventurous lifestyle. Specializing in capturing his subjects in motion, freezing the image, and still showing a sense of energy and movement. He strives to evoke this energy in all of his work, whether fluid or static.
Showing poignant imagery that engages the viewer to consider the values and ethos of sporting culture through the photographs’ human aspect. Illustrating a personal connection with the subject, while highlighting what it means to be an “athlete.”
While taking those peak action images of the classic athlete photograph, he simultaneously challenges what it means to be an athlete. Pursuing the topic of race, upbringing, and the contribution in society to athlete culture.
By utilizing a fine art eye, from a commercial perspective, he aims to add meaning to his photographs, to show the viewer that there is a story and a narrative throughout the project, highlighting the subject and what they represent. Evoking a sense of thought in the viewer, questioning the subject matter, in order for somebody to relate to, be inspired by, and to question what ideas they may have about the subject.
